Great Ending

Well we did have one more game. On March 17th Eddlemon took on Silver Creek. We won the game by a comfortable margin. I ended up having to ref, coach, and keep clock. It was a very fun experience even though I had to do a little bit of everything. With the win Eddlemon finished their first undefeated at 3-0. Even though it was only three games this team came a long way from where they were at the beginning of the season. Having such a diversified team as far as age is concerned we did very well. We had two third graders that made great strides throughout the season. We began to gain chemistry towards the end of the season as well. Overall my experience as a coach went well. I enjoyed being with and teaching the team. I do wish we could have had more games, but cancellations happen. Practices were fun for the most part, but they could be time consuming. I am very happy with how my project turned out. Thank you to everyone for your help and support.

Unbelieveable

I bet you can not guess what happened again. Our last game was cancelled. From what I was told the gym was not ready where we were going to play in Asheville. I am really hoping we can reschedule some of these games. On top of all that our last practice did not go so well. The team was walking everywhere and not giving their best. We have a lot of work to do and I hope we can get a few more games scheduled. On a happy note I am enjoying myself and I can tell the team is having fun as well.

Lookin' Good

Today's practice was stellar. The whole team was attentive and made great plays during the scrimmage. We have one more practice before our next game and if we practice like we did today we are going to be in great shape for that game. We also got two new role-away goals that allow us to do more drills. They also can be lowered so the players who are not as skilled can work on their form in shooting. Today was a great day and the team (coaches included) had a lot of fun. I am ready to be back on the sideline in a game situation though, so I can not wait for the next game!

As you already know we won our first game. These are some pictures from the game one of which is the final score. This week I was not apart of any practices. Tuesday was a golf tryout and today Coach Durby was not feeling well so he canceled practice. I am anxious for next week so that I can get back to work with my team. As I've been thinking about our last game I have realized that my team is a lot better than what I thought. The kids showed good judgment and played very well as a group. I can not wait to see them perform in another game. It's time to get back to work and obtain another W.

Game Time

Today was the first game. We won 45 to 29 and played an outstanding game. At first the other team was destroying us on the glass but we held our heads high and played with what we had. Once our guys started running out in transition we started to build a stout lead and the rest is history really. My player of the game has to go to Romani, our starting point guard. Without him our transition game and defense would have been non-existent. The most improved player from what I have seen in practice goes to Xavier. He worked his tail off and hustled every play. Over all we had a great game and it looks like we will have a great rest of the year!

There Ain't No Way

Our first game was suppose to be today, but it was canceled. Our season was short enough as it was, so this does not help. I am ready to be on the sidelines coaching the game I love. Practice can be fun, but I know the games will be so much more fun. We also did not have any practices this week which was also a bummer, but its all good. I will be fired up and ready for practice and games next week. I'm excited and ready to do work! Let's get it.

Go With Whatcha Got

This week was an okay week. My team had a great practice on Tuesday, but today was not as great. Tuesday the kids were hustling, listening, and when they made mistakes they made quick corrections. Today they were tuning the coaches out, walking to their places, and seemed to not pay attention to their mistakes. They did better towards the end of practice so it was not a complete bad day, but it did drag a little. I am finding that I am getting more vocal with the kids. I am giving advice, praise and constructive criticism naturally. I am enjoying the practices, but it is time to get down to business and prepare for next Thursday's game. We just need one more good practice and I think we will be okay. Go Crusaders!

Defense Is the Best Offense

This week was the first week of full practices (last week we had one try out day). Surprisingly our team is doing very well for the first couple real practices. The defensive and offensive plays that we practiced were executed well given it was the first time for most of these kids to have run the plays. Although we do need to work on some details of the game (i.e. double dribbling, correct passing, etc.) the overall fluidity of the practiced plays was solid. The way our team has been working and getting better makes me so much more excited than I already was. There is some bad news though. The best player on the team is no longer a part of the team because of grades. I am going to do my best to motivate him so we can maybe have him for the second half of the season. So far our team is looking solid and watching them practice gets me more excited. Stay posted for a schedule. Coach Durby has it. I just have not asked for a copy yet.

So It Begins!

My teams first practice was today. It was the first practice with the definite team for the rest of the year. The other two days of practices were more like tryouts. We have 13 players this year and right now we are looking a little rough, but that is okay. I know we will grow better as a team and as individual players. Coach Durby told me today that he is already able to do so much more with me at practice, so my project is creating a useful service which I am excited about. I am ready for the start of games but our team has a long way to go before we reach our full potential. Also we may be taking a trip to somewhere like Maryland to participate in a tournament. I will post where, when, and if we find a tournament. This season is going to be a blast!

Not a Game, Not a Game, We Talkin about Practice

Practice starts next Tuesday! I had a meeting with my mentor and the head coach, Brad Durby, this week and we talked about what will be happening with the team. We decided that this year the team should be more structured and be a little more strict than last year. We want our players to be more committed as far as practices go. Players who skip will not play as much. We are planning on having twelve players this year. Our practices will be every Tuesday and Thursday. I am very excited and cannot wait until the official start of our season!
